Other Info | On Saturday January 21st, 2017, The Charlottesville jazz Society and WTJU are pleased to present Hungarian pianist Daniel Szabo in concert, with Robert Jospe on drums and Pete Spaar on bass. This event, to be held at The Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church Unitarian Universalist, is also made possible in part with support from the Embassy of Hungary and The Virginia Commission for the Arts. US-based Daniel Szabo is a Hungarian-born, award winning pianist, composer and educator, specializing in jazz, classical, and film music. He was trained at The Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest as well as at The New England Conservatory of Music. Since then he has collaborated with some of the top musicians on the current jazz scene, including Peter Erskine, Chris Potter, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and John Zorn. Szabo now resides in Los Angeles and is an active member of the West-Coast jazz community. He is a faculty member in the prestigious Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA, and holds a Doctorate degree in the field of jazz, composition and film scoring. Szabo’s latest album, A Song From There, features one of his mentors, legendary drummer Peter Erskine. Percussionist Robert Jospe and bassist Pete Spaar are members of the jazz faculty at The University of Virginia, and perform regularly with the Free Bridge Quintet and many other ensembles. Tickets to see the Daniel Szabo Trio at 8 p.m. in The Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church, 717 Rugby Road, are available (soon) in advance at Szabopiano.eventbrite.com. Admission is $12 General, $10 for paid supporters of The Charlottesville Jazz Society, and $5 for all students. For more information visit Cvillejazz.org or call Gary at (434) 249-6191.
