The History Of Jazz from A-Z Armstrong to Zawinul

The Inner Rhythm concert/lecture program with Jeff Decker, music faculty University of Virginia, on saxophones, Bob Hallahan, professor of music James Madison University, on piano and Randall Pharr, music faculty Virginia Commonwealth University, on bass, traces the development of jazz through the twentieth century from Rag Time to Fusion. The blues and standard song forms are demonstrated and explained along with performances of compositions from some of the greatest American jazz artists and composers. The concert repertoire includes Louis Armstrong’s “Struttin’ With Some Barbecue”, Duke Ellington’s “Black and Tan Fantasy”, Count Basie’s “Tickle Toe”, Charlie Parker’s “Shaw Nuff”, Dizzy Gillespie’s “A Night In Tunisia”, Miles Davis’s “So What”, John Coltrane’s “Giant Steps”, Dave Brubeck’s “Take Five” and Joe Zawinul’s “Birdland”.

Miles Davis Tribute, “Bitches Brew” and the Birth of Fusion

Robert Jospé and the Inner Rhythm band present a tribute to Miles Davis and the Jazz Fusion Era. In addition to Bob Hallahan on keys, Jeff Decker on sax and percussion, and Rusty Farmer on bass the band is often joined by Butch Taylor on keyboards and John D’earth on trumpet. The group performs original compositions and covers by some of the eras best known artists including Herbie Hancock and Joe Zawinul.
